Empowering Futures: LING Project Launches New STEM and Empowerment Initiative for Girls.
The Literacy in Northern Ghana (LING) has launched a groundbreaking new initiative designed to inspire and empower learners across selected schools through its STEM-based workshop clinics, with a special focus on increasing girls’ participation.
With generous support from our online crowdfunding sponsors, this one-year project seeks to drive meaningful change in Tamale Metro, Yagaba Kubori, and Kumbungu districts. Its core mission is to promote STEM education, menstrual hygiene awareness, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention, substance abuse advocacy, and digital fluency skillsamong young learners.
At the heart of this initiative lies a simple but powerful belief that every child, regardless of gender or economic background, deserves the opportunity to explore their full potential. In many northern Ghanaian communities, girls continue to face cultural and systemic barriers that limit their participation in science, technology, and innovation. Through this program, LING is breaking those barriers by creating safe learning spaces, mentorship opportunities, and hands-on practical STEM experiences that spark curiosity, confidence, and creativity.
Beyond academics, the project integrates menstrual hygiene education, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) advocacy, and substance abuse prevention, empowering girls with knowledge, dignity, and voice. By engaging parents, caregivers, teachers, and community leaders, LING is building a shared commitment to protect and promote girls’ education and wellbeing.
A key innovation in this initiative is the introduction of an “SOPALA” offline digital server that enhances digital literacy and fluency ensuring that even in low-connectivity areas, learners can meaningfully explore technology. Through activities such as coding, robotics, and digital storytelling, participants will develop critical skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
This project marks a bold step toward building inclusive, technology-driven, and gender-responsive education in Ghana’s northern rural communities where access, opportunity, and digital inclusion remain ongoing challenges.
We are profoundly grateful to everyone who contributed through our online crowdfunding campaign. Your generosity continues to power our mission of making education not just accessible, but truly empowering for every learner. Together, we are proving that when communities invest in girls, we invest in a stronger, more equitable future.
